An Energy Audit is a systematic and documented assessment of energy flows in a facility with the objective of understanding energy consumption patterns, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending cost-effective measures to reduce energy use without compromising production or comfort. It involves a detailed review of energy bills, operating practices, and equipment performance, supported by field measurements and data analysis.

The audit typically covers major utilities such as fuel, thermic fluid, steam & condensate, compressed air, waste heat recovery systems, and evaluates energy performance at the system and equipment level. Based on the findings, Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) are proposed along with estimated energy savings, investment requirements, and payback periods. An effective energy audit forms the technical foundation for energy management programs, statutory compliance (such as PAT or ISO 50001), and continuous improvement in energy efficiency.
